The Body is not Natural

Beginning or no understanding of topic, Open to all
Movement not required
Likely neutral
In this session, I want to suggest a critical yet appreciative analysis of the field of somatics and embodiment from a background of Cultural Studies. Rather than questioning how bodies represent culture, I would like to ask: What bodies do emerge out of our notions on the body? How do our regular bodily practices shape our bodies? What are the political dimensions of these notions and practices? And how are these notions in the embodiment community sometimes linked to conservative, heteronormative or stereotyped ideas on naturalness and the body?
