Of all our body functions breathing is the most amenable to conscious control. It can be a powerful resource for self-regulation and healing and an embodied expression of our mental strength which also reflects our physical health as well as our past pain, stress and trauma. When breathing becomes dysfunctional because of these past challenges it might become less effective as a tool for self regulation and meditation. By understanding how to recognize and correct dysfunctional breathing we can reclaim this healing tool.
