An indigenous perspective on healing through nature and ritual
A combination of a "bottom up” and “top down” approach to healing trauma includes the ability to go into the body, the individual body and the collective body, to identify the actual. The actual informs and gives voice to the part of self that shut down in order to survive. The principles of healing on the northwest coast of British Columbia continue to be practiced by individuals and small groups. Land based ceremony and ritual assists with integrating the trance and body work, bringing it all to a place of understanding through nature and ritual.
