Creativity in Memoir Writing through Connection to Your True Self

Memoir writing, like other forms of writing, art, and dance, is an expression of our true selves. We reflect life as experienced through our distinct lenses and interpretations. But today’s society equates creativity with failure—or massive success. This construct can keep the budding writer from expressing themselves fully, instead second guessing their skills, their worth, and their likelihood of what society views as success. The solution I offer is a deeper, mindful connection with our true selves to transcend the ego and create from a space of love. In this session, we will learn about the ego and true self, how to know we're creating from one or the other, and how to step into the identity of the creative beings we all are, followed by our engagement in a series of written reflection questions that range from vulnerable to hilarious (sharing not required!). I have written a memoir about my mother's suicide using the teachings I will share.
