His books include Soil and Soul (Aurum 2001) about rebuilding community with the land, Poacher’s Pilgrimage (Birlinn 2016) about the spirituality and ecology of the imagination, and most recently, Riders on the Storm: The Climate Crisis and the Survival of Being (Birlinn 2020) about the science and human calling that our most pressing global problem invokes. A human ecologist, he was raised on the Hebridean Isle of Lewis in a traditional community. Today he lives in Govan, a hard-pressed area of the city of Glasgow.
