Dr. S. Ama Wray is the creator of Embodiology®. She is an award-winning international artist and scholar. Embodiology® is a mind-body movement science applied to optimize human communications, both with the self and others, by recalibrating the body’s sensory and cognitive intelligences. Discovered through West African practices, grounded by the Ewe term seselelame, meaning knowledge through bodily feeling, Embodiology® is a culturally informed methodology, facilitating access to the bodymind’s sensorium supported by a framework of dynamic rhythm. The most recent application of this concept has informed a virtual iteration of the praxis which she also provides a service for the Samueli Center for Integrative Health in California. She is an Associate Professor of Dance at UC Irvine where she also leads the Africana Institute for Creativity, Recognition and Elevation. Embodiology® has been widely sought out by universities and other institutions around the world including, Princeton, UC Berkeley, Temple, University of Wisconsin Madison, Martha Graham School, Atlantic Center for the Arts, University of Ghana, Legon, University of Texas, World Dance Alliance, CareHope Nursing College, National Dance Educators Organization, Dance Studies Association, Middlesex University, Serendipity-UK, Comparative International Education Society – Contemplative Practices, University of Trinidad and Tobago and the California Dance Educators
