Roger Kuhn

Roger Kuhn, MA, LMFT (he/they) Roger Kuhn is an enrolled member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. He is a PhD candidate in Human Sexuality where his community based participatory research is focused on Two-Spirit people and Indigenous understandings of love. His work is informed from a social and sexual justice perspective. Roger considers himself a soma-cultural sex therapist. He is interested in the body and its relation to culture which helps shape, challenge, and ultimately influence our experiences. In addition to his work as a soma-cultural sex therapist, Roger is a clinical supervisor for license track marriage and family therapy associates, and a professor of American Indian Studies at San Francisco State University. He is a board member of the Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits and the American Indian Cultural Center of San Francisco, CA. He currently lives in Guerneville, CA (Pomo Territory) with this husband and two dogs. I believe working with people as they inquire and discover about themselves is a beautiful experience. My work is inspired by my interests in human sexuality, anthropology, primatolgy, dance, music, art, travel, and Two-Spirit Indigenous studies. ​My work is informed from a social and sexual justice perspective. I strongly believe in equality and equity and work to create brave spaces for clients to explore the impact of privilege, colonization, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, patriarchy, and the countless 'isms' we encounter in life. I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in Human Sexuality, where my work focuses on Indigenous Two-Spirit concepts of love. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Somatic Psychotherapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies. My undergraduate degree is in anthropology. I consider myself a soma-cultural therapist. I am interested in the body and its relation to culture which helps shape, challenge, and ultimately influence our experiences. I was raised in a biracial and bicultural household (Native American and Caucasian) and understand the importance of culturally competent therapy. Prior to my work as a therapist, I worked for corporate America and non-profit companies in New York City. In addition to my current work as a therapist, I am also a professor and Core Faculty member at the California Institute of Integral Studies. I am a member of AASECT, CAMFT, GAYLESTA, and a board member of the Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits Society. I offer short and long-term therapy for individuals, couples, are varying partner configurations. I work with adults, teens, and children of all orientations and backgrounds.
