Neil Theise, MD is a physician-scientist at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine in New York City. His clinical work focuses on diagnostic liver pathology and he is an international thought leader in concepts of human liver disease, regeneration, and healing. His anatomic studies helped to define liver stem cells that led directly to his pioneering work in the field of adult stem cell plasticity. Most recently, his anatomic studies have led to the identification of novel anatomy of the human interstitium that indicates it to be an organ-size communication network comprising 20% of the volume of the human body with protean implications for health and disease as well as implications for cross-cultural dialogues for global healing modalities. As a complexity theorist and philospher, he explores the nature of the universe as a self-organizating system and how these concepts can inform science-spirituality dialogue and a deeper understanding of the relationship between consciousness and the universe. He is a Senior student of Roshi Enkyo O'Hara at the Village Zendo in New York CIty and has more recently been initiated into shamanic traditions.
