Melanie has decades of service working with marginalised people, many of whom are non-verbal communicators and/or require physical support to engage in life and community. In her work in human services and as an international educator, Melanie has fine-tuned skills of connection, communication and facilitation to work with people in an embodied and empowered manner. Melanie harnesses the tension that exists between the facilitator and receiver of support to embody dignity and respect, to hear the unspoken, and to re-equate the balance of power in relationships. Working as a Behaviour Support Practitioner with people with significant disability and complex behaviours Melanie came to honour the way in which emotion and purpose is embodied and behaviourally expressed. With a background in Psychology & Sociology and training in Trauma Informed Care, Melanie has taken these skills and knowings and blended those with thousands of hours experience leading face to face and online language training, to develop a framework that harnesses the embodied and relational aspects of mind and language learning. In her signature course “Embodied English”, Melanie Williams de Amaya helps values-driven leaders to access their confidence, passion, and power to amplify their influence by embodying English in the same way their native language is embodied, and to express English relationally in the same way that relationships have forged their experience of their native language.
