Dr. Humberto Maturana

Chilean biologist with a PhD from Harvard University in the United States and post-doctoral studies at MIT in the same country. Develop research in the field of neurophysiology of perception with wide international recognition. He then returned to Chile, where he taught at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile. Later, together with other distinguished scientists, he founded the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Chile, an entity that granted him recognition as Professor Emeritus. In 2000 he founded Matríztica in Santiago de Chile with Ximena Dávila, as a school of thought in the south of the world. In this center, Humberto, Ximena and their team of collaborators are involved in various research and cultural transformation projects. Their studies focus on their desire to understand the origin of living beings (autopoiesis and natural drift), language and perception (biology of language and knowledge), the origin of the human (biology of love), the cultural-biological matrix of human existence and evolution (cultural biology). He has received numerous awards in Chile and abroad, including the National Science Prize for his fruitful scientific work and his contribution to the country.
