Dr. David Shaner has trained for over 50 years and holds the rank of Hachidan (8th dan) in the Japanese art of Shinshin Toitsu Aikido. He is the Chief Instructor of the Eastern Ki Federation and is Japan HQ’s Advisor to Eastern Europe and Russia where he has taught annually for the last 20 years. Shaner Sensei received his PhD in Japanese Philosophy from the University of Hawaii and has taught at Harvard University (1985-86) and Furman University (1982-2012) and currently serves as Herring Professor Emeritus at Furman University. Shaner Sensei has authored four books and is the Book Series Editor (SUNY Press) of the “Philosophy and Biology’ series with 37 volumes focused upon understanding the biological basis of productive learning and behavior. As a "Crown Prince Akihito Scholar”, Shaner Sensei was granted a personal audience with the Emperor of Japan His Majesty, Emperor Akihito.
