Barnaby moved to China in 2008 for what he thought would only be a year. He’s been there ever since. Before moving to China, Barnaby pursued a lifetime’s interest in Buddhism and meditation completing the Basic Program, a 2.5-year residential study of Tibetan Buddhism at the Lama Tsong Khapa Institute. After 6 years daily training of modern Yang style Tai Chi, as well as a host of different Qigong and martial arts practices at Xiamen university in China, Barnaby took a discipleship with a 5th generation lineage holder of traditional Yang style Tai Chi, Yan Han Xiu, with whom he trained full-time for a number of years in Guangxi. Barnaby is now a medical student at the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine where he majors in acupuncture. His first book collaboration is due out later this year entitled ‘Formulas of Traditional Chinese Medicine’ and reflects his deep interest in and study of Chinese herbal medicine. In his free time, he practices Qigong and is an avid Brazilian Jiu Jitsu white belt. Barnaby considers a ‘no-BS-approach’ as vital in his study of martial arts, medicine, and meditation.
